Find the Right Hot Tub

Six questions do most of the choosing. Walk them in order and by the end you know exactly what you’re shopping for. Start with the number in your head, and our budget guide will make it a better number.

How many people will use it?

Size to a normal week, not a holiday party. This one answer narrows the field more than any other.

What do you want it to help with?

Back pain, arthritis, stress relief, better sleep. Each one has a straight, sourced answer in Hydrotherapy 101.

Lounge seat, or open seating?

A lounge lets one person recline full-length. Open seating fits more people. Neither is better, and it’s the main reason to sit in a few spas before choosing.

Which features matter most?

Massage systems, water care, lighting, audio, smart controls. Jet count is marketing; jet design is therapy.

Do you want salt water care?

Softer-feeling water, far less dosing, and up to a year between water changes. It’s the biggest what-is-it-like-to-own decision.

What’s your timeframe?

FreshWater® Salt System and FreshWater® IQ

Salt-ready Hot Spring® and Caldera® spas turn a small amount of dissolved salt into chlorine automatically, so you add fewer chemicals and spend less time on maintenance.

FreshWater® Salt System

A titanium cartridge converts dissolved salt into chlorine as the water circulates, and the cartridge is owner-replaceable about every four months. Included on the Highlife® and Utopia® collections, and salt-ready on Limelight®, Hot Spot®, Paradise® and Vacanza®. Learn more about the Salt System.

FreshWater® IQ

FreshWater IQ adds hourly water testing and one-touch dosing on top of the salt system. The spa tests itself, shows you what it needs on the control panel or app, and corrects pH at a tap. Available on 2024-and-newer Highlife®, Limelight®, Utopia® and Paradise® models. Learn more about FreshWater IQ.

What about plug-and-play spas?

Freeflow® and Fantasy® spas use FROG® cartridge sanitizing instead: pre-filled cartridges that keep chlorine steady without daily measuring.

Can You Plug a Hot Tub Into a Regular Outlet?

Yes. Plug-and-play spas run on a standard household outlet: fill it, plug it in, and soak the same day, no electrician needed. That’s the Freeflow® collection from Hot Spring and the Fantasy® series from Caldera, and it’s the easiest way to get into a quality spa.

The trade-off is that the jets and heater share the circuit, so on a cold night with the jets wide open the water can cool a touch. Full-size spas run on a dedicated 240V circuit and hold full heat with everything running. In the Northwest you’ll soak year-round, so if long winter soaks with strong jets are the goal, a 240V model is worth the electrical work.

What hot tub owners say

Recent five-star Google reviews from customers who bought their hot tub at one of our showrooms.

“You Don’t Get Randy at Costco When we were shopping for a hot tub, Randy made a comment that stuck with me. He said, “If you buy the tub, you get me.” At the time I thought it was just a clever sales pitch. If you’re currently trying to decide between buying a hot tub from a local dealer or ordering one from Costco, let this review answer that question.…”

“Yet another 5-star review for Hot Tubs Northwest, and specifically for Randy Skelton, who went above and beyond to make our experience excellent. It took us over a year to go from “window shopping” to wet-testing (at HTNW (twice!) and two other spa retailers) to finally purchasing, and he stuck with us patiently the whole time.…”

Emily G. Burlington Showroom · 3 months ago

“We recently purchased a hot tub from Hot Tubs NW and had an outstanding experience from start to finish. Jared and Galen are incredibly knowledgeable and did an amazing job with the installation. They took the time to answer all of our questions about maintenance, water care, and chemicals, making sure we felt comfortable and confident with our new hot tub.…”

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to the hot tub questions we hear most. The Learning Center covers each one in depth.

How much does a hot tub cost?

Published price ranges run by tier, and our cost guide walks them with real numbers. We don’t price a specific model sight-unseen because your real cost depends on the model, the features you choose, and what your site needs. Get pricing and we’ll quote your exact setup.

Will it cost a fortune to heat in winter?

Cold climates cost more, but full-foam insulation, an insulated base pan, recycled heat, and a tight cover keep it efficient. The cover is the biggest daily factor.

Can I plug a hot tub into a regular outlet?

Yes. Freeflow® and Fantasy® plug-and-play spas run on a standard household outlet. Full-size spas run on a dedicated 240V circuit installed by a licensed electrician. Our 110V vs. 240V guide walks the trade-offs.

What size hot tub do I need?

2 to 3 seats fits couples and small spaces, 4 to 5 fits most families, and 6 to 8 is built for entertaining. Bigger uses more energy and chemicals, so size to a normal week, not the biggest party of the year.
