Find the Right Hot Tub

Most people only buy a hot tub once, so it’s normal not to know where to start. These six questions cover what actually matters. Answer them and you’ll know what to look for.

How many people will use it?

Size to a normal week, not a holiday party. This one answer narrows the field more than any other.

What do you want it to help with?

Back pain, arthritis, stress relief, better sleep. Each one has a straight, sourced answer in Hydrotherapy 101.

Lounge seat, or open seating?

A lounge lets one person recline full-length. Open seating fits more people. Neither is better, and it’s the main reason to sit in a few spas before choosing.

Which features matter most?

Massage systems, water care, lighting, audio, smart controls. Don’t get hung up on jet count, though; where the jets sit and how they’re designed matters far more than how many there are.

How much upkeep do you want?

Salt systems make softer-feeling water with less day-to-day dosing. Freeflow keeps it even simpler with the FROG® cartridge system, a low-effort routine that’s a natural fit for a plug-and-play spa you fill and enjoy the same day.

Can You Plug a Hot Tub Into a Regular Outlet?

Yes. Plug-and-play spas run on a standard household outlet: fill it, plug it in, and soak the same day, no electrician needed. That’s the Freeflow® collection from Hot Spring and the Fantasy® series from Caldera, and it’s the easiest way to get into a quality spa.

The trade-off is that the jets and heater share the circuit, so on a cold night with the jets wide open the water can cool a touch. Full-size spas run on a dedicated 240V circuit and hold full heat with everything running. In the Northwest you’ll soak year-round, so if long winter soaks with strong jets are the goal, a 240V model is worth the electrical work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the hot tub questions we hear most. The Learning Center covers each one in depth.

How much does a Freeflow hot tub cost?

Freeflow is Hot Spring’s value, plug-and-play collection, so it’s the most affordable way into the brand and the simplest to set up. Our cost guide walks the tiers with real numbers. Get pricing and we’ll quote your exact setup, no pressure and no obligation.

Can I plug a Freeflow into a regular outlet?

Yes. Every Freeflow model runs on a standard 115V household outlet, so most installs need no electrician and no subpanel. Many models convert to 230V later for faster heat recovery. Our 110V vs. 240V guide walks the trade-offs.

Will it cost a fortune to heat in winter?

A rotomolded shell and a tight-sealing cover hold heat well for a plug-in spa. On a 115V circuit the jets and heater share power, so on a cold night with the jets wide open the water can cool a touch; converting to 230V removes that. The cover is the biggest daily factor.

What size Freeflow do I need?

The collection runs from the two-seat Mini™ up to the five-seat Monterey™ and Aptos™. 2 to 3 seats fits couples and small spaces, and 4 to 5 fits most families. If you’re between two sizes, go by a normal week of use rather than your biggest gathering.
